According to this email, which was supposedly sent by Apple, some of your account information is missing or invalid and you must open an attached file to verify your details.
The message warns that your Apple account will be disabled if you do not verify your information as requested. The subject line of the email states that you violated one of the company’s policies on a specified date.
However, Apple did not send the email and the claim that your account will be disabled if it is not verified is untrue. Instead, the email is a phishing scam designed to steal your personal and financial information.
The attached PDF contains a message that supposedly offers more details about the problem. It again claims that your Apple ID is set to be disabled because of account violations and urges you to click a button to provide the missing or invalid information.
If you do click, you will be taken to a fraudulent website that has been built to mirror a genuine Apple sign in page. Once you have signed in with your Apple email address and password, you will be presented with a bogus account update form. The form asks for your credit card numbers, your name and contact details, and other identifying personal information.
After you submit the form, you will be automatically redirected to the genuine Apple website.
The scammers can now gather the information you submitted and use it to hijack your Apple account, commit credit card fraud, and attempt to steal your identity.
Phishing scams that target Apple users are very common and take many forms.
Always login to your Apple account by entering the address into your browser’s address bar or via a legitimate Apple app rather than by clicking a link in an email or text message.
Apple has published information about identifying and reporting phishing scams on its website.
An example of the scam message:
Subject: [ New Statement Reminder ] You’ve violated one of our policy on March 03 2018
Dear Client,
We’ve noticed that some of your account information appears to be missing and invalid.
We need to verify your account information in order to continue using your Apple ID. Please Verify your account information by opening the attachment file and fill the requested form.
Case : ID6910272
Your account will be disabled if we didn’t receive any response from you in 24 hours.
