This email, which purports to be from Apple, claims that your account has been locked for your protection.
Supposedly, the company prevented an “unusual transaction attempt on your Apple account”.
The email urges you to click a “Verify Your Account” link to rectify the supposed problem and unlock your account.
However, the email is not from Apple and your account has not been locked as claimed.
Instead, the email is a phishing scam designed to steal your personal and financial information.
If you click the link, you will be taken to a fraudulent website that has been built to emulate a genuine Apple web page.
Once on the fake site, you will be asked to supply your Apple ID, your credit card numbers, your name and contact details, and other identifying information.
The criminals can collect this information and use it to hijack your Apple account, conduct fraudulent credit card transactions, and attempt to steal your identity.
Apple customers are regularly targeted in scams like this one. The Apple website includes more information about such phishing scams and how to report them.
