Apple ‘Unable to Validate Your Details’ Phishing Scam

This email, which purports to be from Apple Support, claims that the company’s automated system was unable to validate your details. Thus, claims the message, you are required to complete a short validation process by clicking a link.

It warns that the validation link will expire 48 hours after the email was sent and your Apple ID may be suspended if you have not validated your account as requested.

But, Apple did not send the email and the validation claims are just a trick to get you to click the link.  The message is a scam that phishes for your personal and financial information.



Here’s what the scam email looks like:

If you fall for the ruse and click the link, you will be taken to a fake Apple website and asked to log in with your Apple ID and password.  After entering your login details, the following message will appear:

By falsely claiming that your Apple ID has been locked for security reasons, the scammers hope that you will be more likely to fill in the following verification form without due forethought:

After filling in the form, you may see a final message indicating that you have completed the validation process.

But, criminals can now collect the information you provided and use it to hijack your Apple account, commit credit card fraud, and steal your identity.
