‘You’ve Been Issued With an Infringement Notice’ Malware Email

According to an email that is currently hitting inboxes,    you’ve been issued with an infringement notice and must pay a fine.

The email urges you to click  a link to download the supposed infringement  notice. There are separate download links for PC and mobile phone.

However, the email is not a legitimate infringement notice. Instead, it is a criminal ruse designed to trick you into downloading and installing malware.

The PC link downloads  a .zip file that harbours a malicious Javascript (.js) file.   If you click this .js file, malware will be installed on your computer.

The mobile phone link downloads an archive file for Android phones. The archive file contains a malicious file that can install malware on your phone.

Criminals regularly use fake traffic infringement notices to distribute various types of malware, including ransomware.

If you receive one of these emails, do not click any links or open any attachments that it contains.
