TRUE – You Should Update Your Kindle Before March 22nd

Outline:
Reports circulating online claim that you must update your Kindle Reader before March 22nd or it will no longer work properly.

Brief Analysis:
The reports are true. Amazon has indeed released a critical update for Kindle Readers and has warned users that the update needs to be applied before March 22.    If the device is not updated, it will no longer be able to access the Kindle Store, download items, or use other Kindle services. After March 22, the update will need to be manually installed. (See Detailed Analysis below for more information and links).

Example:

Detailed Analysis:
A number of reports  and rumours are currently circulating that warn that your Kindle Reader will no longer work correctly if you do not apply an  update by March 22nd, 2016.

The reports are true, albeit in some cases, a little breathless. Amazon has indeed released an update for Kindle Readers and is urging users to install the update by 22nd March.

An Amazon help article about the update, which is now being flagged by Amazon as ‘Urgent’, notes:

Customers using an outdated software version on Kindle e-readers require an important software update by March 22, 2016 in order to continue to download Kindle books from the Cloud, access the Kindle Store, and use other Kindle services on their device.

Many Kindle owners will likely have already installed the update. The Amazon help file explains how to check your Kindle’s software version and how to access the update if required.

Note that, while the update is important and you should certainly try to install it  before March 22nd, all is not lost if you miss the deadline. Your Kindle will not be ‘bricked’ or rendered forever useless if you don’t update in time. But, because  your outdated Kindle will no longer connect to Amazon on or after March 22nd, you will need to update it manually in order to get it reconnected and working as it should.

A link in the help file opens information explaining how to update manually if required.
