According to a post being shared on Facebook, Tim Hortons is celebrating New Year by giving everyone a free voucher worth $50.
The post urges you to click to claim your free voucher.
However, the post is fraudulent and it is not associated with Tim Hortons. Those tricked into participating will never receive the promised voucher.
The scam message is designed to trick people into first spamming their Facebook friends with the same fake giveaway and then divulging their personal information on suspect survey websites.
If you participate by providing your details on one of the survey sites, you will soon begin receiving unwanted and annoying phone calls, text messages, emails, and surface letters that peddle a variety of products and services.
The scammers responsible for the fake Tim Horton’s promotion will earn commissions each time users supply their details on one of the survey sites.
This type of scam is very common on Facebook. You can read more about the scam here.
