The Page has no connection to Southwest Airlines and it is not giving away airline tickets as claimed. There are no prizes and no winners. The Page is a scam designed to accumulate large numbers of Page likes as quickly as possible. Pages with high numbers of likes can later be used for other scam campaigns or sold on the black market to other scammers.

According to a post on a Facebook Page that calls itself ‘Southwest Air’, the airline is giving users the chance to win airline tickets to anywhere in the world, along with $5000 spending money plus accomodation and food. And, claims the post, all you need to do for a chance to win is like and share the Page and add the common ‘booked’. Supposedly, 1000 winners will be selected at random and messaged with the winning details.
However, the Facebook Page is fraudulent and has no connection to Southwest Airlines. The Page is not giving away any prizes. The Page is a scam designed to gather very large numbers of likes very quickly. By tricking people into sharing and commenting, the scammers ensure that their fraudulent prize posts are seen by an increasing number of Facebook users. And, as a result, the bogus Page will gain a great many new likes in a short time.
When the winner notification date specified on the ‘prize’ post passes, new versions of the post with new winner notification dates will appear on the page.
Once the Page has gathered a large number of likes, it can then be used to launch survey scams or other types of spam and scam campaigns, this time to a much larger potential audience. Alternatively, the Page can be sold on the black market to other scammers who will repurpose to suit their own goals.
The genuine Southwest Facebook Page is called ‘Southwest Airlines’ not ‘Southwest Air’ and features Facebook’s blue ‘verified’ icon beside its name.
Like-farming scams like this one are very common. Be wary of any Facebook Page or post that promises valuable prizes such as airline tickets, cruises, holidays, luxury cars, tech gear, or store vouchers just for liking, sharing, and commenting.
