According to this message, you have won a large sum of money in a lottery program organized by Facebook.
Supposedly, Facebook used a random selection of email addresses and cellphone numbers to choose a winner of the lottery prize.
However, the message is not connected to Facebook and the claim that you have won a lottery is a lie.
In fact, the message is an advance fee scam designed to trick you into sending money and personal information to criminals.
If you reply to the “agent” who sent you the message, you will be told that you must send money to cover various expenses before your prize claim can be processed. The scammer will warn that if you do not send the requested money, your lottery prize will be given to someone else.
If you do send money, further requests will likely follow. After the scammers have extracted as much money as possible from you, they will go silent and you will no longer be able to contact them. You will not get your money back and, of course, you will never get the promised lottery prize, which never existed in the first place.
The scammers may also be able to steal your identity using personal and financial information you sent them as part of the bogus lottery claim process.
Facebook lottery scams like this are very common and take many forms. Criminals distribute the scams via Facebook Messenger and email. Sometimes, they use bogus “Facebook Lottery” Pages and groups to further the illusion that their prize claims are genuine.
Keep in mind that there is no such thing as a Facebook Lottery. Any message that claims that you have won a lottery or promotion operated by Facebook should be treated as highly suspect.
