According to a post on a Facebook Page that uses the name ‘Virgin Holidays Australia’, you can get the chance to win a Bali holiday for four just by sharing and commenting.
Supposedly, Sir Richard Branson himself will be giving away an envelope with the prize tickets ‘in 8 hours’. The post features an image of Sir Richard holding up the envelope.
However, the post and the associated Facebook Page are fraudulent and have no connection to Virgin. Those who participate have no chance of winning the promised Bali trip or any other prize.
The image used in the scam post depicts Branson and young fashion entrepreneur Eseoghene back in 2015. The image has been stolen from elsewhere on the Internet and altered to fit.
The scammers who created the fake Facebook Page are intent on promoting the page and rapidly accumulating page likes.
Once the fake Facebook Page has become more popular via the bogus giveaway, it can be used to launch further scams, this time to a much larger pool of potential victims. Or, it may be sold on the black market to other scammers.
Note that genuine Virgin Facebook Pages will always have Facebook’s blue “verified” icon beside their names.
Like-farming scams like this one are very common on Facebook. Be wary of any post that claims that you can win valuable prizes such as holidays just by liking, sharing, and commenting. You can read more information about such scams here.
