’20 Golden Envelopes’ Fake P&O Cruise Giveaway On Facebook

According to a post that is currently being shared on Facebook, you can win a P&O cruise for three people just by sharing the post and clicking a sign-up button.

Supposedly, the organiser of the cruise prize is giving away “20 amazing golden envelopes” that each has  the cruise  tickets inside. The post features a photograph depicting a man surrounded by the golden envelopes.

But, neither the post nor the Facebook Page it comes from is associated with P&O Cruises in any way whatsoever.   And no cruise prizes are being given away.   Those who participate have no chance of winning anything at all. The giveaway is a typical Facebook survey scam.

And, the golden envelopes featured in the scam post were actually used to hold the results of the Oscars for the 2016  Academy Awards show. The image was apparently stolen from a February 2016 Los Angeles Times report about the making of the  Oscars envelopes.

By tricking people into sharing the fake giveaway post, the scammers ensure that their bogus material travels rapidly across Facebook and gains many new victims.

If you click the sign-up link on the bogus Facebook Page, you may be taken to one of several suspect  websites that promise the chance to win further prizes in exchange for supplying your name and contact details.

But, the information you supply will be shared with marketing firms who will subsequently inundate you with emails, phone calls, text messages, and letters urging you to buy their dubious products and services.

In other cases, you may be redirected to a fraudulent video streaming website that tries to trick you into subscribing to its service and supplying your credit card details.

And, no matter how many sites you visit and how much of your personal information that you submit, you will never get the promised golden envelope or the cruise tickets it supposedly contains.

If this scam post comes your way, do not click on it. And let the person who shared it know that the message is a scam.

For the record, the genuine  P&O Cruises Facebook Page, which has Facebook’s blue verification  icon to prove its authenticity,   makes no mention of  the supposed cruise giveaway.
