Carnival Cruise ‘Twenty Boxes’ Facebook Giveaway Scam

According to a post that is currently being shared on Facebook, the “Carnival Cruise Fans” Facebook Page is giving away twenty boxes each  containing a Carnival Cruise for 4 along with other “goodies”.

The post, which claims to be from the Carnival Cruise CEO, features images depicting a man standing beside a stack of boxes with Carnival Cruise Line branding.

In comments under the post, the Page owners claim that  you must click the blue Sign Up button near the top of the page and submit your details  for a chance to win one of the boxes.

However, the post and Facebook Page that published it are fraudulent. They have no connection whatsoever to Carnival Cruise Line and those who participate have no chance of winning one of the promised goodie boxes or any other  prizes. There ARE no prizes.

The image used in the scam post was  stolen from a 2015  news post  published  by the environmental organization Friends of the Earth. The pictured boxes actually held  100,000 petition signatures that were to be sent to Carnival Cruise Lines. The scammers have altered the image so that the boxes appear to have Carnival Cruise labels.

The bogus giveaway is a  typical Facebook survey scam  that is designed to trick you into divulging your personal information on suspect websites.   If you click the Sign Up button, you will be taken to a website that promises the chance to win further prizes in exchange for submitting your name, address, and contact details.

However, the information you supply will be shared with third-party marketing companies who will inundate you with unwanted and annoying phone calls, text messages, emails, and letters promoting their dodgy products and services.

By sharing and commenting on the fake giveaway post, you are helping the scammers get new victims and exposing your friends and family to the scam as well.

Facebook giveaway  scams  like this are very common and have used the names of many high-profile companies around the world. Several  earlier versions  have also  falsely claimed to be giving away Carnival Cruise Line tickets. Another very similar scam that uses the same stolen images claims to be giving away P&O Cruises.

There is no mention of the supposed box giveaway on the  genuine Carnival Cruise Line Facebook Page, which features  Facebook’s blue “verified icon”.

If one of these scam posts crosses your  News Feed,  don’t be tempted to participate. And let the person who posted it know that the message is a scam.
