According to a post that is circulating on Facebook, chocolate maker Cadbury is rewarding EVERYONE with a free basket of chocolate to celebrate their 194 year anniversary.
The post features a photograph depicting a collection of Cadbury products displayed in a cane basket. Supposedly, you can click on the post to get your free chocolate.
However, the post has no connection to Cadbury and no amount of clicking or sharing will get you the promised chocolate basket.
Clicking the post opens a website that claims that you can get your free chocolate basket by answering a few questions and sharing and commenting on Facebook. After sharing and commenting, you are instructed to click a “Claim Now” button.
Clicking the claim button opens various websites that promise further prizes in exchange for completing surveys and submitting your name and contact details. But, this information will be shared with unscrupulous marketing companies who will use it to inundate victims with unwanted phone calls, emails, text messages, and letters.
The image used in the scam post was stolen from a website that sells gift baskets.
If one of these scam giveaway posts crosses your News Feed, do not click on it and do not share it.
This is not the first time that scammers have used the lure of free chocolate to trick people into visiting scam websites.
