According to this ‘security notice’ email, which \u00a0purports to be from Internet giant Amazon, access to ‘certain features’ of your account have been temporarily restricted as a security measure.<\/p>\n

The email urges you to click a ‘Restore Access’ link to validate your account information and rectify the supposed security issue. \u00a0It warns that, if you don’t validate as requested, your account may be suspended \u00a0permanently.<\/p>\n

However, the email is not from Amazon and the claim that you must validate your information to lift an account restriction is untrue. In fact, the email is a typical phishing scam<\/a> designed to steal your Amazon account login information as well as other sensitive personal and financial information.<\/p>\n

If you click the ‘Restore Access’ link, you will be taken to a fraudulent website designed to emulate the genuine Amazon login page. After entering your account login credentials on the \u00a0fake site, you will be taken to further fraudulent pages that ask for name and contact details, credit card numbers and other \u00a0identifying information. At the end of the process, you may be directed to a final page that claims that you have \u00a0successfully resolved the issue before being automatically redirected to the real Amazon website.<\/p>\n

The criminals responsible for this phishing campaign can collect all of the information you supplied and use it to hijack your Amazon account, conduct fraudulent transaction using your credit card and attempt to steal your identity.<\/p>\n

Amazon is \u00a0Internet based, conducts much of its business via email, and is well-known all around the world. Criminals thus regularly target the company’s customers via phishing emails<\/a> such as this one. The Amazon website includes clear information<\/a> about how to identify and report phishing scams.<\/p>\n

If you receive this email or \u00a0one similar to it, do not click any links or open any attachments that it contains.<\/p>\n
