Instead, the email is a <a title=\"Phishing Scams - Anti-Phishing Information\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hoax-slayer.com\/phisher-scams.html\">phishing scam<\/a> designed to steal your personal \u00a0and financial information.<\/p>\n<p>HSBC Safeguard is a real security initiative offered by the bank. But, in this case, the scammers \u00a0have used the name of this genuine \u00a0security initiative as a means of adding credibility to their message.<\/p>\n<p>If you click the \u00a0&#8220;Update&#8221; button, you will be taken to a fraudulent website that first asks for your HSBC  \u00a0login details and then requests that you fill in an \u00a0&#8220;account update&#8221; form. The form asks for your credit card and banking details along with other \u00a0personally identifying information.<\/p>\n<p>All of the information you supply will be collected by criminals and used to hijack your money, commit credit card fraud, and steal your identity.<\/p>\n<p>Phishing scams <a title=\"PHISHING - HSBC Bank 'Account Monitoring Process' Email\" href=\"http:\/\/hoax-slayer.com\/hsbc-bank-account-monitoring-process-phishing.shtml\">like this one<\/a> are very common.
