According to the message, an overheated bearing on a loaded coal car melted, detaching a support rod to grind on the railway line beneath, releasing hot molten metal as it went. \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- HS Net Top Content Responsive --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:block\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0355887770822260\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"4870821038\"\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>The crew stopped the train after noticing smoke coming from a car about midway along the train&#8217;s length. Unfortunately, the car with the melted bearing came to rest on a wooden bridge that quickly caught on fire. A series of photographs attached to the message show the fiery and destructive results of the mishap.<\/p>\n<p>Reports about the incident note that it took place on April 12, 2002, at 3:55 PM, near Wallace Station which is close to Sharon Springs, in the American state of Kansas. The problem car was number 57 of a fully loaded 100 car coal train. When a Union Pacific crew boarded a loaded coal train for the long trek to Salina ..<\/p>\n<p><b>The Bad news:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Just a few miles into the trip a wheel bearing became overheated and melted, letting a metal support drop down and grind on the rail, creating white hot molten metal droppings spewing down to the rail.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Good news:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A very alert crew noticed smoke about halfway back in the train and immediately stopped the train in compliance with the rules.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Bad news:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The train stopped with the hot wheel over a wooden bridge
