There are no credible references to a security threat like the one described.<\/p>\n<p>Spain&#8217;s Polic\u00c3\u00ada Nacional has \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/policia\/status\/891283166153109504\">debunked the message as a hoax<\/a> via its Twitter feed.<\/p>\n<p>Another, very similar version of the hoax warns WhatsApp users not to <a href=\"http:\/\/hoax-slayer.net\/hoax-popcorn-carnival-whatsapp-hacker-warning\/\">open a video called &#8220;Popcorn Carnival&#8221;<\/a>. In fact, the hoax is just one of many <a href=\"http:\/\/hoax-slayer.net\/dance-pope-phone-virus-hoax\/\">silly hacker and virus hoaxes<\/a> that have circulated in various formats for years.<\/p>\n<p>If you receive this false warning, do not \u00a0spread the hoax further by sharing it. And let the person who sent it know that the message is a hoax.<\/p>\n<p>Note that, while these messages are hoaxes, WhatsApp \u00a0users should be wary of fake notifications promising app upgrades or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoax-slayer.net\/whatsapp-ultra-light-wifi-feature-scam-messages\/\">extra features<\/a>. \u00a0 These are scams designed to steal personal information or distribute malware.<\/p>\n<h2>Example of the hoax:<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>If you know anyone using WhatsApp you might pass on this.
