Smith&#8221;. \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- HS Net Top Content Responsive --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:block\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0355887770822260\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"4870821038\"\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>The message claims that the hacker &#8220;has the system connected to your Facebook account&#8221;.  \u00a0It requests that you alert your friends to the danger. Supposedly, if one of your contacts \u00a0accepts a friend request from \u00a0Jayden K. Smith, you will also be hacked.<\/p>\n<h2>An example of the hoax message:<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Please tell all the contacts in your Messenger list, not to accept Jayden K. Smith friendship request. He is a hacker and has the system connected to your Facebook account. If one of your contacts accepts it, you will also be hacked, so make sure that all your friends know it. Thanks. Forwarded as received<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Just another silly &#8216;friend request&#8217; hacker hoax<\/h2>\n<p>However, the would-be warning is without substance and sharing it will help nobody. There is no hacker threat like the one described.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the \u00a0message is just one more in a long line of similar friend request hacker hoaxes that have been circulating for many years.<\/p>\n<p>From time to time,  \u00a0a new version will emerge featuring a new name for the alleged hacker along with some minor changes in wording. For example, the following message, which is also currently circulating,  \u00a0identifies the &#8220;hacker&#8221; as &#8220;Anwar Jitou&#8221; \u00a0rather than \u00a0&#8220;Jaden K. Smith&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Please tell all the contacts in your list Messenger, not to accept Anwar Jitou contact, a hacker who has a computer connected to your Facebook account. \u00a0If one of your contact accepts, you will also be hacked, so make sure that all your friends know that. \u00a0Thanks good evening!!!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Clearly, both versions are cut from the same cloth. And, neither version is a valid security warning<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the \u00a0&#8220;Anwar Jitou&#8221; version is itself derived from <a href=\"http:\/\/hoax-slayer.net\/bum_tnoo7-hacker-warning-hoax\/\">earlier and equally spurious warning<\/a> messages that have been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hoax-slayer.com\/simon25-hacker-hoax.shtml\">pointlessly passed around<\/a> for more than a decade.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0355887770822260\" data-ad-slot=\"9162856233\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<h2>&#8220;Hacker&#8221; scenario described  \u00a0is technically impossible<\/h2>\n<p>Criminals \u00a0use a \u00a0 variety of methods to trick people into handing over access to their accounts. They may \u00a0trick you into installing malware that allows them to take control of your computer.<\/p>\n<p>Or they may use phishing scam messages to trick you into sending them your account login credentials and other personal information. Armed with these stolen details, the criminals could then hijack your account and use it for their own purposes.<\/p>\n<p>However, even the most clever hacker will not be able to take control of your computer just by being added to your Facebook friends list. For a hacking attempt to work, some sort of file transfer or exchange of information must take place or the victim must take some sort of action such as installing malware.<\/p>\n<h3>Sharing these silly &#8216;hacker&#8217;  \u00a0warnings helps nobody<\/h3>\n<p>As noted, versions of these hacker hoax warnings have been circulating via email and social media for years on end. But sharing these false warnings does nothing whatsoever to help people stay safe online or protect their accounts. All they do is spread confusion.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, because the hoaxes often use names shared by a many people around the world, they can unfairly damage \u00a0the reputations \u00a0of people who have done nothing wrong.<\/p>\n<p>If one of these hoaxes comes your way, do not share it with others. And, let the person who posted it know that the message is a hoax.<\/p>\n<h3>But, DO Use Caution With Friend Requests<\/h3>\n<p>While these warnings are just silly hoaxes, it IS a good idea to use caution \u00a0and common sense when accepting \u00a0friend requests. It is certainly not wise to blindly accept friend requests from strangers.
