The \u00a0promotional post features \u00a0an image depicting a Mini Cooper decked out with a red ribbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>However, the Facebook Page is fraudulent and those who participate have no chance whatsoever of winning the promised Mini Cooper.  \u00a0The prize does not exist and there are no winners. \u00a0The image of the ribboned &#8216;prize&#8217; car has <a title=\"Pinterest Mini Picture\" href=\"https:\/\/au.pinterest.com\/pin\/480548222710172658\/\">appeared in other contexts<\/a> on a number of other websites and has been online for several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>The entire purpose of the bogus giveaway is to quickly gather large numbers of likes for the &#8216;Mini Club&#8217; Facebook Page. By instructing people to like the Page as well as \u00a0share and comment on the promotional post, the perpetrators know that they can \u00a0collect very large numbers of Page likes in just a few days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Later, when the Facebook Page has enjoyed a substantial increase in Page likes, its operators can use it to launch <a title=\"What is a Facebook Survey Scam?\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hoax-slayer.com\/what-is-a-survey-scam.shtml\">survey scams<\/a>, or other types of fraud, this time to a much larger pool of potential \u00a0victims. Or, the scammers may choose to sell the Page to other scammers via a thriving black market. The more likes a Facebook Page has, the more money it will likely sell for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p><a title=\"Facebook Like-Farming Scams\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hoax-slayer.com\/like-farming-scams.shtml\">Like-farming scams<\/a> like this are <a title=\"Like-Farming Scam List\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hoax-slayer.com\/like-farming-scam-list.shtml\">very common<\/a>.
