The Page itself had accumulated over 196,000 likes.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Page is not associated with or endorsed by MattyB in any way. The Page is a scam \u00a0d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoax-slayer.net\/facebook-like-farming-scams\/\">esigned to trick Facebook users into liking and sharing<\/a>. There is no prize. The scammers responsible for the Page are exploiting the young singer&#8217;s popularity and large fan base as a means of gathering large numbers of likes.<\/p>\n<p>A Facebook Page with a large number of likes can be a quite valuable commodity. Once a page has accumulated a good deal of likes, it can then be used to launch further scam or spam campaigns, this time to a much larger audience.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, the Page can be sold to other scammers or unscrupulous Internet marketers who will repurpose it to further their own nefarious goals. The more likes a Page has the more money it is likely to sell for on the black market.<\/p>\n<p>By tricking users into sharing and liking the post as well as the Page, the scammers ensure that their fake Page gets seen by an ever-widening audience.<\/p>\n<p>The image in the post depicting the wad of cash has been taken from an \u00a0<a title=\"Where would you invest a million dollars?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2009\/05\/22\/us-summit-investment-idUKTRE54L6CQ20090522\">earlier news report \u00a0<\/a>about investment strategies. And the car image \u00a0also appears \u00a0on several other blogs and websites unrelated to MattyB.<\/p>\n<p>For the record, \u00a0<a title=\"MattyBRaps Facebook Page\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MattyBRaps\">MattyB&#8217;s official Facebook Page<\/a> \u00a0&#8211; which features Facebook&#8217;s blue &#8216;verified&#8217; tick &#8211; makes no mention of cash or car giveaways.<\/p>\n<p>Scammers have also used the names of several other stars in similar like-farming scams.
