{"id":1766,"date":"2019-04-06T19:33:47","date_gmt":"2019-04-06T19:33:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.syyhoaxanalyzer.com\/?p=1766"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T17:00:00","slug":"HMRC-'Payment-Credit-Issuance'-Tax-Refund-Phishing-Scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.syyhoaxanalyzer.com\/?p=1766","title":{"rendered":"HMRC &#8216;Payment Credit Issuance&#8217; Tax Refund Phishing Scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>According to this email, you are eligible to receive \u00a0a &#8220;Payment Credit Issuance&#8221; from \u00a0the UK&#8217;s HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- HS Net Top Content Responsive --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:block\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0355887770822260\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"4870821038\"\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>The email, which features the HMRC logo, instructs \u00a0you to click a link to claim your tax refund.<\/p>\n<p>However, the email is not from HMRC and clicking the link will not get you the promised refund.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the email is just one variant in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoax-slayer.net\/tag\/hmrc\/\">series of very similar \u00a0tax refund phishing scams<\/a> that have targeted UK \u00a0taxpayers for a number of years.<\/p>\n<p>If you click the link in the scam email, you will be taken to a fraudulent website and asked to complete a &#8220;Tax Refund Request&#8221; form. \u00a0 The fake website has been built to emulate the genuine HMRC site. It includes logos, graphics and footer information stolen from \u00a0HMRC.<\/p>\n<p>The fake refund form asks you to supply your name, address, and other \u00a0identifying information, ostensibly as a means of verifying your identity. \u00a0 It also asks for your credit card numbers, supposedly so that your refund can be transferred directly to your credit card account.<\/p>\n<p>After completing \u00a0the form, you may see a final message stating that your refund request will be processed shortly.<\/p>\n<p>But, meanwhile, online criminals \u00a0can collect the information you supplied and use it to steal your identity. \u00a0 They can also use your credit card to make fraudulent transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Phishing scam \u00a0campaigns \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoax-slayer.net\/hmrc-you-are-eligible-to-receive-a-tax-refund-phishing-scam\/\">like this one<\/a> \u00a0are very common.
