Supposedly, retired army sniper \u00a0Jeremy Elmore was cleaning one of his firearms late at night in his bedroom when &#8220;while adjusting the scope it unintentionally landed on one of his neighbor across the street&#8217;s open windows&#8221;. Through the scope, Elmore saw that the neighbour family was being attacked and held hostage by armed intruders. When the situation escalated, Elmore shot the intruders, thereby saving the family.<\/p>\n<p>Or so the story goes. But, although the story is presented as a genuine news report, it is, in fact, a work of fiction. The event described never happened. There are no credible news stories about such an event.<\/p>\n<p>The story comes from a fake-news website that calls itself &#8220;The Seattle Tribune&#8221;.  \u00a0The website owns up to its subterfuge <a title=\"The Seattle Tribune - Disclaimer\" href=\"http:\/\/theseattletribune.com\/disclaimer\/\">via a disclaimer<\/a>, which reads in part:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The Seattle Tribune is a news and entertainment satire web publication. The Seattle Tribune may or may not use real names, often in semi-real or mostly fictitious ways.
