The commercial was first shown on British television back in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>The version of the video currently circulating omits the final part of the commercial, which features shots of Foster&#8217;s hit tap, a type of beer that is made to retain its head more than other beers. The commercial ends with the voice-over, &#8220;New Foster&#8217;s Hit Tap&#8230;Don&#8217;t lose your head!&#8221;.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KnB7qx3LKIw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Of course, as the complete version shows, the majority of viewers who saw the original TV ad would have realized almost immediately that the footage did not show a real incident. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0355887770822260\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"9162856233\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p> The words of the commentator after &#8220;Big Doug&#8221; loses his head, (&#8220;Crikey! That&#8217;s gunna hurt in the morning, son!&#8221;), along with the product shots and &#8220;Don&#8217;t lose your head&#8221; voice-over made it abundantly clear that the footage was intended only as a humorous way of promoting beer.<\/p>\n<p>However, once it escaped out of the confines of its original TV context and with the final portion of the video omitted, many recipients believed that it depicted a real incident.<\/p>\n<p>When it aired in Britain, the ad \u00a0<a class=\"norm\" title=\"Foster's ad cleared of bad taste\" href=\"http:\/\/www.realbeer.com\/news\/articles\/news-002006.php\">caused some controversy<\/a>, with 186 viewers \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20090209205922\/http:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/static\/archive\/itc\/itc_publications\/complaints_reports\/advertising_complaints\/show_complaint.asp-ad_complaint_id=894.html\">submitting complaints<\/a> \u00a0that they &#8220;were startled by the ad and found it in bad taste&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>However, Britain&#8217;s Independent Television Commission (ITC) investigated the complaints and concluded that, while the ad may have been startling, it was &#8220;clearly humorous&#8221; and the &#8220;actual images were not graphic, bloody or realistic&#8221;.
