Outline:
Post being shared on Facebook claims that US supermarket chain Whole Foods Market are giving away grocery coupons worth $275 to everyone who clicks on the link.
Analysis:
The post is not associated with Whole Foods Market in any way. And, the claim that Whole Foods is giving everyone free $275 coupons is a lie designed to trick people into clicking. Those who do participate will win nothing whatsoever.
This is just one more version of an ongoing “anniversary giveaway” scam that has used the names and details of many companies all around the world. The goal of the scammers who create these fake giveaway posts is to trick people into supplying their personal information on dodgy “survey” and “offer” websites. The information provided will be shared with unscrupulous marketing companies who will later bombard their victims with unwanted and annoying phone calls, emails, text messages, and letters. The scammers earn commissions each time somebody discloses information on one of the survey sites.
Whole Foods Market has confirmed that the post is fraudulent via comments on its official Facebook Page.
