Warnings about potentially dangerous Easter egg toys are currently circulating online. The warnings are valid and parents should take them seriously. Target in the United States has recalled a range of water-absorbing Easter and Dino toys because they pose a potential hazard to children.
A post about the recall on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website notes:
If the small toy is ingested, it can expand inside a child’s body and cause intestinal obstructions, resulting in severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration and could be life-threatening. Surgery is required to remove the toy from the body, if ingested. Medical professionals and parents should be aware that there is a possibility that the toys might not show up on an x-ray.
Consumers are advised to take these toys away from their children immediately. The toys can be returned to any US Target store for a full refund.
Thankfully, at the time of writing, there have been no reports of deaths or injuries caused by the toys.
