A post being shared on Facebook claims that Dunkin Donuts is giving away a free box of donuts to EVERYONE as a means of celebrating the company’s anniversary.
The post is fraudulent. Those who participate will never receive the promised box of donuts. The post has no connection to Dunkin Donuts whatsoever.
In fact, the post is a typical Facebook scam designed to trick you into spamming your friends with the same fake giveaway and then supplying your personal information on scam survey websites.
Clicking the link opens a bogus website that asks you to complete a short survey about your donut eating habits. After you complete the survey, you will be told that you have won the free box of donuts but must now share, like, and comment on Facebook.
After you have shared, liked, and commented, you will be told that you must verify your entry by clicking a link.
The link opens a website that asks you to provide your name and contact details to get a chance to win further prizes.
However, the information you supply will be shared with site sponsors and marketing companies. So, you will soon be inundated with unwanted and annoying marketing emails, phone calls, text messages, and letters.
And, alas, you will never receive the promised box of donuts.
Scams like this one continue to plague Facebook. You can read more about these scams here.
