Yet another phishing scam email is targeting Netflix users. The fraudulent email, which features the Netflix logo and footer details, claims that the company failed to validate the information it holds on record for your account.
It urges you to click a link to complete a brief validation process so that you can “continue enjoying Netflix”.
If you fall for the ruse and click the link you will be taken to a scam website that asks for your credit card numbers, your name and contact details, and other identifying information. All of the information you supply can be collected by criminals and used to commit credit card fraud and identity theft.
A series of similar Netflix phishing scam emails have been distributed in recent years. Be very wary of any email that purports to be from Netflix and claims that you must click a link or open an attached file to rectify an account issue, update details, or avoid an account cancellation.
It is always safest to login to your online accounts by entering the account address into your browser’s address bar or via an official app.
The Netflix website includes information about recognising and reporting such phishing attempts.
