According to a post that is currently being shared via Facebook, the Coors Brewing Company is giving everyone a free 24 pack of Coors Light Beer as a means of celebrating the company’s 200th anniversary.
The post, which you can supposedly click to get your free beer, features an image depicting rows of Coors Light cartons.
However, the post has no connection to the Coors Brewing Company and those who participate will never receive the promised free beer.
In fact, the post is just a typical Facebook giveaway scam designed to trick you into visiting suspect websites and providing your personal information.
If you fall for the ruse and click on the post, you will be taken to a fraudulent website that asks you to fill in a short survey about Coors Light.
After you answer the survey questions, the fake site will pretend to check your answers and then open a new page that claims that you have been selected as a winner of a free Coors Light 24 pack. No matter what answers you give, you will always be selected as a “winner”. The page urges you to hurry up and complete the remaining steps because there are supposedly only a few free beer coupons left to giveaway.
You will then be instructed to share the free giveaway post on Facebook with the comment “Thanks for my Beer” and then click “Like”.
Liking, sharing, and commenting helps to promote the scam post across Facebook thereby gaining the scammers may more victims.
After liking, sharing, and commenting, you will be told you must click one of several links provided to complete your entry and receive your free beer coupon. The links open various websites that promise the chance to win further prizes in exchange for providing your name and contact details.
But, if you participate, your information will be shared with marketing companies who will then begin bombarding you with unwanted and annoying phone calls, text messages, emails, and letters touting various dodgy products and services.
And, sadly, no matter how many links you click or personal information forms you fill out, you will never get your free beer.
The scammers who created the fake giveaway earn money each time a hapless beer lover provides his or her information on one of the linked websites.
For the record, the official Coors Light Facebook Page makes no mention of the supposed giveaway. And, Coors Light is not 200 years old as claimed in the scam post. Coors Light beer was launched in 1978 and the company itself was founded in 1873.
