It warns that, if you fail to complete the validation, access to your account will be limited and  \u00a0&#8220;all activity&#8221; will be suspended.<\/p>\n<p>Supposedly, Tangerine is upgrading services to provide a higher layer of security to its users.<\/p>\n<h2>Email is Not From Tangerine \u00a0&#8212; Phishing Scam<\/h2>\n<p>However, Tangerine did not send the email and it will not suspend your account if you don&#8217;t click the link.<\/p>\n<p>The email is a <a href=\"http:\/\/hoax-slayer.net\/phishing-scams-anti-phishing-information\/\">typical phishing scam<\/a> designed to steal your personal and financial information.<\/p>\n<p>If you click the link, a fraudulent website will open in your browser.  \u00a0The site features \u00a0the Tangerine logo and familiar orange colour scheme to further the illusion that it is legitimate.<\/p>\n<p>It first asks you to enter your account login credentials. Next, it will instruct you to complete an &#8220;account \u00a0verification&#8221; form that asks for your name and contact details, your credit card numbers, and other identifying \u00a0personal information.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, you will see a message claiming that you have successfully \u00a0completed the verification and thereby avoided the threatened suspension.<\/p>\n<p>Online criminals can now use the information you supplied to hijack your Tangerine account, commit credit card fraud, and attempt to steal your identity. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- HSNet Article Center --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0355887770822260\" data-ad-slot=\"5727909035\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Many Banks Targeted in Similar Scams<\/h2>\n<p>Bank phishing scam emails like this one are common. Be \u00a0wary of any email or text message purporting to be from your bank that instructs you to click a link or open an attached file to verify your account, update information, or rectify an account problem. Your bank is very unlikely to send you such a message.<\/p>\n<p>It is always safest to log in to your online accounts by entering the address into your browser&#8217;s address bar or via a trusted app.<\/p>\n<p>Tangerine \u00a0includes information about phishing scams on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tangerine.ca\/en\/security\/index.html\">&#8220;Security Stuff&#8221; page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>An example of the scam email<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Subject: 748661 Tangerine Limited Usage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dear Tangerine valued customer,<\/p>\n<p>Sent to you on: May 17,2017<\/p>\n<p>Due to maintainance services on our databases, we require<br \/>\nour customers to verify their online accounts.<\/p>\n<p>We have upgraded our services to provide a higher layer of<br \/>\nsecurity to our clients.<\/p>\n<p>To verify your online account click on the following link<br \/>\nto access the validation form:<\/p>\n<p>Click here to login to your account<\/p>\n<p>This update is intended for the purpose of protection our<br \/>\ncustomer accounts.
