According to this email, which purports to be from Virgin Media, you have \u00a0been set up to receive bills from the company online. Supposedly, the company is upgrading to a new and improved payment system and you \u00a0must therefore urgently upgrade your billing details or risk losing your email address. The email instructs you to \u00a0click a “sign in” link to perform \u00a0the upgrade.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the \u00a0email is not from Virgin Media. It is a phishing scam<\/a> designed to trick you into submitting your personal and financial information to \u00a0cybercriminals. If you click \u00a0the link in the email, you will be taken to a fake website designed to look like a genuine Virgin Media webpage.<\/p>\n

The fake page will ask you login to your Virgin Media account. After logging in, you will be redirected to a second fake page that \u00a0asks you to provide your PayPal account login details \u00a0as well as your banking and \u00a0credit card \u00a0information. After \u00a0filling in the \u00a0form, you will be redirected to \u00a0the \u00a0genuine Virgin media website.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the scammers can collect all of the information you have submitted and use it to hijack your Virgin Media and PayPal accounts and use your credit card details to commit fraudulent transactions in your name. The criminals may \u00a0use the information to steal your identity.<\/p>\n

Virgin Media has warned \u00a0customers about this and other phishing attacks<\/a> via its website. \u00a0If you receive one of these emails, do not click any links or open any attachments that \u00a0it contains.<\/p>\n
