“Little Baby Has Cancer”; Facebook Like-Farming Scam

Outline:
Circulating  Facebook post that features a video of a little boy in a hospital bed claims that the baby has cancer and that Facebook has decided to help by donating $2 for every like, $4 for every comment, and $8 for every share.

Brief Analysis:
The post is a  disgraceful scam designed to accumulate likes and promote a particular Facebook profile.  Facebook will certainly not donate money to help the child in exchange for liking, sharing, and commenting. The child in the video does not have cancer. The callous and immoral user who created this scam stole the video from another source and reused it without the permission of the child’s mother. Liking, sharing, and commenting on the video will do nothing whatsoever to help the child.

According to a post that is currently circulating rapidly, Facebook has decided to help a baby with cancer by  donating $2 for every like, $4 for every comment, and $8 for every share. The post features a video of a little boy in a hospital bed and asks you not to scroll down without typing “amen”.

However, the post is a vile scam designed to promote a particular Facebook profile. Facebook will NOT donate money to help the child in the video in exchange for likes, comments, and shares. And, the child does not have cancer. The video was stolen from another source and used in the scam post without the permission of the baby’s family. The baby’s mother has asked that people report the scam, noting via an Instagram post:

If any of you guys are on fb & see this pls report it. As yall know my son do not have cancer.

Sadly, scams like this one are all too common.  Apparently, there are plenty of Facebook users that are so morally bankrupt that they are willing to use images or videos of sick children just to promote themselves and get more followers. These people are beneath contempt and have no place on our social networks. Please do not help these scammers by liking, sharing, and commenting on their fake charity posts. Remember, participating will only help the scammer. It will do nothing whatsoever to help the pictured children. And, it can cause great distress to families of the children victimized in the scams.
