Outline:
Circulating Facebook post claims that a Facebook Page called “4×4 Warehouse” has decided to give away 5 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT’s “for the first time in Facebook history”. To enter, claims the post, all you need to do is like the Facebook page, like and share the post, and add the comment “Me”.
Analysis:
The Post and Facebook Page are fraudulent. No Jeep Grand Cherokee’s are being given away. No amount of liking, sharing or commenting will give you even the slightest chance of winning a Jeep or any other prize.
Like hundreds of others of its ilk, this fake Facebook Page is just another scam designed to gather large numbers of Facebook likes as quickly as possible. Once the Page has harvested a large number of likes, it can then be redeployed to launch other types of scams. Or, it might be sold on the black market to other scammers. The more likes one of these fake Facebook Pages has acquired, the higher the price it will command on the black market.
Like-farming scams continue to be very common on Facebook. There has been an ongoing series of very similar scams that have all promised the chance to win luxury vehicles “for the first time in Facebook history”.
