X-Files Set ‘UFO Crash’ Image Being Used by Conspiracy Theory Websites

Various conspiracy  theory websites are using a photograph that supposedly depicts a crashed UFO as evidence that the US government is covering up encounters with alien beings.

But, alas, despite the most ardent wishes of such sites and their supporters, the photograph does not show an alien spacecraft.

The truth is out there, but, in this case at least, it’s a little more mundane than the conspiracy theory headlines would have you believe.

In fact, the image depicts a 2015 on-location film set for the X-Files miniseries. The set was located near Ashcroft in  British Columbia, Canada.

A 2015  Vancouver Sun report about the filming   that features the same image notes:

The set features a flying saucer embedded in the ground.
Ashcroft, with its semi-desert terrain, may be standing in for Roswell, New Mexico, a supposed UFO crash site that is a big part of the X-Files mythology.

So, sadly, the picture is not evidence of alien visitors after all.   But, at least we can take comfort in knowing that no aliens were hurt during filming.
