Slack Reports Data Breach

Team collaboration platform Slack has reported a March 2015 security incident in which hackers gained  unauthorized access to user profiles.  A post on the company’s blog noted:

We were recently able to confirm that there was unauthorized access to a Slack database storing user profile information. We have since blocked this unauthorized access and made additional changes to our technical infrastructure to prevent future incidents.

In its report, Slack notes that  no  financial or payment information was accessed or compromised in this attack. It also assures  users that there is  “no indication that the hackers were able to decrypt stored passwords”.

If you are a Slack user, you should review the detailed information about the  breach on the Slack website.

Data Breach Warning

We have an entire chapter devoted to data breaches and what to do about them in our eBook Protecting Yourself from Identity Theft, Internet Scams & Phone Scams. The book, written and published by Brett and Deborah Christensen, also discusses  many other types of online and phone based security threats.

The eBook is in Kindle format and  is available right now on Amazon.

Proceeds from book sales  help fund Hoax-Slayer and allow us to continue our ongoing  fight to make the Internet a safer and more enjoyable place in which to work and play.
