Scam ‘Virgin Australia’ Facebook Page Promises Hawaiian Holiday As Bait

According to a post that is currently spreading rapidly on Facebook, you could win a Hawaiian holiday for two courtesy of Virgin Australia just by sharing and commenting.

The post, which comes from a Facebook Page that calls itself “Virgin Australia”, claims that the winner of the company’s latest competition  has refused the prize for personal reasons. So, claims the post, the  Hawaiian holiday prize is being offered once again.

However, the Facebook Page is bogus. It has no connection to Virgin Australia and no holidays are being given away. No amount of sharing and commenting will give you the chance to win a trip to  Hawaii.

Moreover, the primary photograph in the post actually depicts a resort in Bora Bora, rather than Hawaii.

The fraudulent  giveaway posts on the Facebook Page are designed to promote the Page to a much larger audience via shares and comments as well as gather Page likes. Later, the bogus Facebook Page can be used to promote further scams, this time to a much larger pool of potential victims.

If this or similar giveaway posts hit your  Facebook News Feed, do not be tempted  to participate. Doing so not only helps online scammers to prosper but also  exposes your friends and family to the scams.

Note that the genuine Virgin Australia Facebook Page, which features Facebook’s blue “verified” icon beside the name, does not mention the supposed holiday giveaway.
