Facebook is currently being flooded by posts that claim that you can get free lifetime passes to various popular fast food outlets. The posts claim that you can enjoy free food from the specified restaurant for life by clicking a link and following the instructions to claim your ‘lifetime pass’. Versions of the post have offered free passes from a number of high-profile fast food chains, including KFC, McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Wendy’s.
However, the posts are actually Facebook survey scams and they are in no way associated with the companies they name. No lifetime passes are being given away.
In fact, the messages are typical Facebook survey scam designed to trick you into promoting the fraudulent claims to your friends and Facebook groups and divulging your personal information via suspect online surveys.
Clicking on the posts will take you to a fraudulent web page that is made to look like it is part of Facebook. The page claims that, to get your free pass, you must share the page link with your Facebook friends and send it to 5 Facebook groups you belong to.
Once you share as instructed, the page will display a popup that claims that you must complete a survey before receiving your prize. The popup will include a list of links. The links open survey websites that offer the chance of winning further prizes in exchange for completing surveys and supplying your name, home address, email address, home phone number, and mobile phone number. But, fine print on the sites will explain that, by participating, you are giving permission for your personal information to be shared with site sponsors and third-party marketing groups. Thus, you will soon find that you begin receiving unwanted and annoying phone calls, text messages, emails, and surface letters promoting various products and services.
The scammers responsible for these bogus posts will earn money via affiliate marketing systems every time people supply their information on one of the survey sites.
Be wary of any post or page that claims that you can get a free lifetime pass for a fast food store just by liking, sharing and participating in online surveys.
