No, ‘Step Brothers 2’ Is NOT Set to Begin Filming In 2016

Outline:
Circulating report  claims that a sequel to the much-loved comedy film ‘Step Brothers’ will soon  begin filming  in Richmond, Virginia. A second version claims that  the film will begin shooting in Sacramento, California.

Brief Analysis:
The claims in the reports are  untrue. No plans to make a Step Brothers sequel this  year  have been announced.  The reports come via a network of bogus  websites that, between them, churn out an ongoing stream of clickbait nonsense  disguised as entertainment or celebrity news.

Detailed Analysis:
According to a report that is currently moving around the Internet via social media posts and entertainment blogs and forums, Step Brothers 2 is set to begin filming later in 2016. The report claims that the long awaited sequel  will  be filmed in Richmond, Virginia. Another, almost identical version of the  report claims that the film will be made in Sacramento, California.

However, Step Brothers fans will be saddened to learn that the reports are untrue. Step Brothers 2 is not set to begin filming this year, in  Richmond, Sacramento, or any other location. There has  been no official announcements that support that claim that a Step brothers sequel will begin filming this year.

The false reports come from a network of clickbait fake-news websites that specialise in churning out nonsensical stories about various celebrities, movies, and the entertainment industry.  The Richmond version of the fake report was published on a site called ‘Local News 33’. The Sacramento version was published on an almost identical site called ‘MBY News’. In fact, there is a whole series of such sites, all of which recycle versions of the same false stories.    All of the sites include the following disclaimer on  their Contact Us/About pages:

[Name of site]  is a fantasy news site.  All news articles on localnews33.com are satire or pure fantasy.

A similar hoax story from this stable of sites claims – falsely – that a  sequel to the popular movie ‘The Notebook’  will soon begin  filming. Like the Step Brothers 2 story, there are    several versions of The Notebook hoax report set in different locations across the United States. This fake-news network has also published a series of false  reports claiming that various celebrities, including Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, have announced that they are unexpectedly moving to various out-of-the way locations.

The fictional reports are presented in news format and the sites bury their disclaimer in a location where most visitors will not see it. Thus, many visitors mistakenly believe that the stories are genuine and share them accordingly.

Fake-news sites like these are increasingly common. It is always a good idea to verify  any news stories that  come your way before you share them.
