According to a post currently being shared on Facebook, you can get the chance to win a free BMW M3 for Valentine’s Day just by liking, sharing, and commenting.
The post features a BMW car decorated with red heart balloons and a giant teddy bear. Supposedly, the promotion ends on Valentine’s Day, 14 February.
But, alas, those who decide to participate in the supposed giveaway have no chance whatsoever of winning a BMW or any other prize. The scammers who created the fake promotion do not have a BMW to give away. The image used in the scam post has appeared on many other websites and it is not related to any legitimate Facebook giveaway.
As with similar like-farming scams, the intent of the scammers is simply to promote their page to a wider audience and harvest as many Page likes as possible.
Once the bogus Facebook Page has gathered a great many new likes via the fake BMW giveaway, it can then be used to launch other types of scams, this time to a considerably larger potential audience.
Or, it may be sold on the black market to other scammers who will use it to launch their own spam and scam campaigns.
Scams like this one continue to be very common on Facebook. Be wary of any post or Page that claims that you can win a valuable prize such as a car or holiday just by liking, sharing, and commenting.
