According to a Facebook Page calling itself Free Ford Everest 2016, you can get a chance to win a Ford Everest Titanium 2016 Edition just by liking, sharing, and commenting. The Page claims that two lucky participants will be randomly selected as winners of the cars in June, 2016. Supposedly, this is the ‘first time in Facebook history’ that such a giveaway has been organised.
However, the Facebook Page is fraudulent and it is certainly not giving away any Ford Everest cars. Participants will win nothing at all. In fact, the Page is a typical like-farming scam designed simply to harvest Page likes. By tricking people into liking, sharing, and commenting, the scammers who created the bogus Page ensure that their scam posts are spread far and wide across Facebook. Thus, their Page will gain a great many new likes very quickly.
Once the Facebook Page has gathered a large number of likes, it can be reused to launch survey scams or other spam and scam campaigns, this time to a much larger pool of potential victims. Or, the now like-rich Page can be sold on the black market to other scammers who will repurpose it to fit their own goals.
Like-farming scams such as this one are very common. Be wary of any Facebook Page or post that claims that you can win expensive prizes such as cars, cruises, holidays, airline tickets, or store vouchers just for liking, sharing, and commenting. Don’t be tempted to participate ‘just in case’. Participating exposes your Facebook friends to the scam and helps the scammers achieve their nefarious goals.
