A post currently circulating on Facebook is claiming that US retailer Kroger is giving every family a $200 off coupon as a means of celebrating Black Friday.
The post, which comes from a Facebook Page called “Kroger Club”, claims that you can get your free coupon just by liking, sharing, and adding the comment “done”.
Supposedly, your coupon will be sent to you via Facebook after you like, share, and comment.
However, the post is a scam. It has no connection to Kroger and nobody who participates will receive any valid coupons.
By tricking people into liking, sharing, and commenting, the scammers can effectively promote their fraudulent Facebook Page and gain many new Page likes and followers. They can then use the fake Page to launch further scams, this time to a much larger pool of potential victims.
They may also send direct inbox messages to people who participate that try to involve them in further scams.
There is no mention of the supposed giveaway on the genuine Kroger Facebook Page, which features Facebook’s blue “verified” icon to prove the Page’s authenticity.
If this fake coupon post comes your way, do not participate. And let the person who shared it know that the post is a scam.
