At first I thought this was just a chain letter And I wasnt going to send it either, But now I realize that this is an important situation.

Detailed Analysis
This supposed anti-child abuse message, which bills itself as a “true story”, features a photograph of a small child with a severely injured face and exhorts people to pass it on to others to show that they are against child abuse. The message also features a story in the form of a poem that relates the murder of a three year old child named Chris at the hands of his or her savage and abusive father. The message belligerently condemns those who chose not to send on the picture and poem as not caring about child abuse and having no soul.
However, regardless of how heartfelt and relevant the story may seem, the message rides on the back of a deliberate lie and is therefore both misleading and immoral. The child in the photograph was NOT a victim of child abuse at all. In fact, the picture depicts two year old Jade Wardle who was attacked by a dog at her County Durham UK home in September 2002. A September 30 2002 BBC News article that features the very same photograph explains:
A two-year-old girl suffered horrific facial injuries after being attacked by the family’s new pet dog.
Jade Wardle, from County Durham, had plastic surgery for her injuries and needed a tear duct replaced during surgery on Saturday night.
She was injured when the family’s new dog, Hooch – a Labrador-cross – lunged at her face as she put her arms around it.
The family had owned the dog for just three days.
Clearly, Jade’s photograph has been stolen and callously reused in the message without the permission of her parents. Such unauthorized use of a child’s photograph is morally reprehensible, especially when it unfairly and erroneously implies that the child’s own father inflicted the injuries. In fact, stealing children’s images and reusing them to promote a a particular cause – however noble that cause may be – is in itself abusive and unacceptable.
The poem itself was reportedly penned by Misty Nicole Ramsey who published it on her college website back in 1996. The message does not bother to attribute authorship of the poem. As is common with regard to poems that circulate online, this poem has also been attributed to other authors and some have disputed the claim that it was written by Misty Nicole Ramsey . Different versions of the poem have listed different names for the abused child, including “Misty”, “Sarah” and, as in this version, “Chris”. The original version seems to have featured the name “Misty”, presumably after the author.
In any case, the simple act of sharing or reposting a message will not actually do anything to help prevent child abuse. Clicking “share” on this image may give the users the momentary “warm fuzzy” feeling that they have done something to help, but, in reality, sending on the message achieves nothing. Despite the claims of some who defend such messages, reposting them does not “raise awareness” in any constructive or meaningful way. And, typically, the messages do not even bother to suggest any valid methods for fighting child abuse. Joining or donating to organizations that fight against child abuse can help. Participating in activities within your own communities that increase awareness of child abuse and how to combat it may help. Sharing a message that uses a stolen photograph depicting a child that was NOT a victim of child abuse at all, will NOT help in the slightest.
