A rather eerie image that supposedly depicts a strange ‘cloud monster ‘ hovering above hills beside a highway is currently circulating the Internet. The image has been widely shared via Facebook and other social media sites and has also been posted on various blogs and forums.
The location in which the alleged cloud monster was supposedly photographed varies in different versions of the message. However, many versions claim that the shot was snapped on the ‘I-40 headed towards Pigeon Forge’, in Tennessee.
While some posts just call the depicted creature a ‘cloud monster’, others suggest – probably with tongues firmly in cheeks – that it might be a member of the Chitauri, a race of extraterrestrial shapeshifters that feature in Marvel Comics.
But, in fact, the monster is a digital artwork created by DeviantArt user DaShadeE. It was published on the DeviantArt website in October 2014. The artist calls the piece ‘Cthulhu rising’ and describes it as a ‘cosmic horror emerging from the mist’.
Cthulhu is a creature created by the writer H. P. Lovecraft.
