According to a message circulating via social media, American actor and director Henry Winkler has died and has left half of his estate to the Trump 2020 re-election campaign.
The post features an image of Henry in his “The Fonz” days along with a more current photograph and the description “Henry Winkler AKA The Fonz 1942-2018”.
However, the claims in the post are untrue. Henry Winkler has not died nor has he donated half of his fortune to MAGA 2020.
The false story comes from the satirical publication America’s Last line of Defence. Anyone who actually clicks through and reads the article the post links to should quickly realize that the claims are not intended to be taken seriously. The absurd and obviously tongue in cheek nature of the piece should be a dead giveaway.
Moreover, the site includes the following disclaimer on its About Page:
Everything on this website is fiction. It is not a lie and it is not fake news because it is not real. If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined.
But, alas, many people share such material without actually reading the linked articles or doing even the most rudimentary fact-checking.
It is wise to verify any celebrity death messages that come your way via social media before sharing them.
