According to a message that is currently circulating via cross-platform instant messaging service WhatsApp, Pizza Hut is giving everyone 2 large pizzas as a means of celebrating “60 years of quality service”. The message urges you to click a link to get your free pizzas.
Here’s what the message looks like:
Pizzahut is giving away 2 FREE Large Pizza to everyone to celebrate its 60 years of quality service. Get free pizza at: [Link removed]
However, the message is a scam. It has no connection to Pizza Hut and those who participate will never receive any free pizzas.
If you do click the link, you will be taken to a fraudulent website that claims that, in order to get the free pizzas, you must first share the message with your WhatsApp contacts. Via this ruse, the scammers ensure that their fraudulent messages spread rapidly and gain many new victims.
After sharing as instructed, you will be told that you must click further links to fill in one or more surveys to complete your entry and get your free pizzas.
The survey websites ask you to provide your name and contact details. But, the information you provide will be shared with third-party marketing companies, so you will soon begin receiving unwanted and annoying phone calls, text messages, emails, and letters peddling a range of dodgy products and services.
And, regardless of how many surveys you complete, you will never get the promised pizzas.
Pizza Hut India has published a warning about the scam via its Facebook Page:
Note that several versions of the scam post have been distributed in recent weeks. The text and links in the messages may vary. And, very similar scams have also appeared on Facebook.
