FAKE-NEWS: Sindisiwe Lydia Chikunga ‘Switch off Headlamps’ Quote

According to a circulating report, the South African Government’s Deputy Minister of Transport  Sindisiwe Lydia Chikunga has advised drivers that switching your car’s headlamps off when driving at night can save fuel.

Supposedly  Chikunga uttered  the words while addressing a large crowd in Limpopo.

But, of course, the claims are untrue.  Sindisiwe Lydia Chikunga did not make such a statement. The false report comes from a fake-news website called “News Updates South Africa”, which bills itself as “South Africa’s number 1 news satire website.

And there are no credible news reports that support the claims made in the satirical  article.

The report is obviously  not intended to be taken seriously  and is perhaps intended to highlight concerns in South Africa about rising petrol prices.

It is wise to verify any strange or unusual stories that come your way before sharing them.
