‘Attached is Your Credit Note’ Malware Emails

Emails claiming to include a ‘credit note’ in an attached file are currently hitting inboxes. The emails specify an invoice number for the supposed credit note. The emails also include a value for the supposed invoice along with the name of the company that purportedly sent the message.

However, the emails are not legitimate and they were not sent by the companies they name. In fact, the messages include a malicious file in the attached .zip file.  

If opened, the file can  install malware  on your computer. Once installed, the malware may collect banking, email, and social media login credentials from your computer and send them to online criminals. The criminals can use this stolen information to hijack your online accounts.

The greeting name, the name of the sending company, the invoice number, the invoice amount, and the specified currency may vary in different versions of the emails.

If you receive one of these emails, do not open any attachments or click any links that it contains.
