Various posts circulating on Facebook are claiming that famous American actor Will Smith is giving away millions of dollars in cash and prizes to his Facebook followers.
The posts come from Facebook Pages that claim to be official Will Smith social media channels. Supposedly, for a chance to share in the bounty, all you need to do is share the giveaway posts and click a link to download one of Will Smith’s latest movies.
But, alas, the Facebook Pages and the posts that they spew out are scams and are in no way associated with Will Smith. And, they are certainly not giving any money or prizes.
Of course, the genuine Will Smith Facebook Page, which features Facebook’s verified icon beside the name, make no mention of the supposed giveaways.
The purpose of the scam posts is to trick people into signing up on a suspect video streaming website that claims to offer free movie downloads but nevertheless asks for your credit card details. Any service that promotes itself via scam posts on Facebook certainly should not be trusted with your credit card numbers or any other personal information.
These celebrity giveaway scam Pages are increasingly common on Facebook. Other versions claim that Tyler Perry, Janet Jackson, Adele, and a host of other high profile celebrities are giving away large sums of money and valuable prizes via Facebook.
Be wary of any Facebook Page or post that claims that a famous person is randomly giving away cash and prizes to strangers. While many celebrities may give generously to charities, it is extremely unlikely that even the wealthiest stars would ever simply hand out cash, cars, and houses to Facebook users who simply share a page and download a movie.
Remember that most high-profile celebrities will have the official verified icon beside their Facebook Page names.
