Outline:
A Facebook Page that calls itself “JB Hi-Fi Australia” claims that you can get a chance to win a MacBook Pro computer just by liking and sharing a promotional post and adding the comment “yay”.
Analysis:
The Facebook Page is fraudulent and has no connection to JB Hi-Fi. The Page is not giving away any Macbooks and those who participate have no chance whatsoever of winning anything.
JB Hi-Fi has warned users about the scam via the company’s real Facebook Page, which features Facebook’s blue “verified” icon to prove its authenticity. The warning notes:
Yes, we are well aware of the current fake page doing the rounds. Yes it is fake, and has zero affiliation with the JB Hi-Fi name. We advise not liking, sharing, commenting or providing any information to the page or any links it direct you to.
The fake Facebook Page is a scam designed to rapidly gather large numbers of Facebook likes. After the bogus Page has collected a large number of likes, it can then be reused to launch survey scams and other types of fraudulent activity. Or, it might be sold on the black market to other scammers.
