According to a circulating social media message that features an image depicting a double banana, you will get 5 years of good luck if you repost.
But, warns the message, if you don’t repost, you will get ten years of bad luck.
A few recipients may take the warning seriously and send on the message rather than risk ten years of bad luck. But, of course, most people will quickly realize that the post is just a silly prank that was never intended to be taken seriously.
Some versions ramp up the absurdity by claiming that, to get the promised good luck, you must add the comment “Thank you oh sacred long yellow ones”.
But what of the double banana image itself? Some commentators have suggested that the image may have been “photoshopped”.
However, there is no reason to doubt the authenticity of the photograph. Two bananas do sometimes grow wrapped in the one skin. Such banana anomalies have been well reported over the years.
And, I wouldn’t worry too much about getting bad luck if you don’t repost. I’ve received the message several times but I’ve never reposted it. So far, my luck has held out. Thus, it seems that the sacred long yellow ones have forgiven me my transgressions.
I’m sure that they will forgive you too.
