According to a post published on a Facebook Page that calls itself “Butlins Fans”, you can click a “Sign Up” button to get a chance to win a holiday for four people at any Butlin’s resort.
Butlin’s is a UK based chain of seaside resorts. The Facebook Page features a cut-off version of the Butlin’s logo along with videos and images depicting some of the company’s resorts.
However, the Facebook Page is in no way associated with Butlin’s and it is not giving away any holidays. Those Facebook users who decide to participate in the fake giveaway have no chance whatsoever of winning any prizes.
In fact, the Facebook Page is just another scam designed to trick you into providing your personal information on suspect websites.
The logo, videos, and photographs used on the scam page have been stolen from genuine Butlin’s websites and social media pages.
If you click the “Sign Up” button at the top of the Page as instructed, you will be redirected to an unrelated website that promises the chance to win further prizes in exchange for supplying your name, home address, email address, and phone numbers.
However, the information you provide will be shared with dodgy marketing companies who will subsequently inundate you with suspect “offers” and “deals” for products and services you most likely neither want nor need.
And, even after submitting your details, you will never be entered into the supposed resort holiday draw. No holidays are being given away and the only winners are the scammers who created the fake Facebook Page.
The genuine Butlin’s Facebook Page, which includes Facebook’s verified icon to prove its authenticity, does not mention the supposed holiday giveaway.
If one of these fake posts hits your Facebook News Feed, do not be tempted to participate. If you do, you will be helping Facebook scammers gain underserved profits.
